Liam Hemsworth has told friends that he is hoping for a reconciliation with ex-girlfriend Miley Cyrus, according to reports.

The 20-year-old Australian actor, who met Cyrus while they were filming The Last Song, confirmed their split last week.

A friend of the couple told The Daily Telegraph: “Although the relationship is over now, it doesn’t mean it is over forever. There might be a chance of rekindling their romance in the future. They both are of the mindset that if it’s meant to be, it will be.

“Liam was into the relationship a lot more then she was. He liked being exclusive. He was serious about her and wanted to make it work.

“She still has strong feelings for Liam, but she still is very young and currently is career driven. She knows this is her time to shine career-wise and that love will come whenever she wants it. She was a lot busier than he was, and distance also played a role in the break-up.”

She plays Lola – who is described as a “teenage Aphrodite, minus the confidence”. We are not sure what this film will be rated but it should be PG-13 or R.

Although the 17-year-old Hannah Montana starlet was very touchy-feely with Douglas, also 17, they weren’t doing anything illicit in the restaurant — after all, they WERE out with fellow LOL stars Ashley Greene and Tanz Watson. “The flirting was very respectful and no, they didn’t kiss,” the bartender says. “They were among friends and other people in the restaurant – but she WAS falling all over him. ”

The Lion’s Den staffer corroborates an eyewitness report by fan Taylor, who wrote of her August 22 run-in with Miley & co. at the restaurant, “It was really weird, though, she was ALL over the Douglas kid. I wanted to ask her where Liam was but thought that would be a little rude lol.”

Well, not SO rude, given that Liam, 2o, broke the news of his split from Miley August 25; the couple dated for a year after meeting on the set of their tearjerker The Last Song last summer. While it looks like his ex is trying to move on with her hunky British co-star – who happens to have a girlfriend of three years! – Liam himself looks to be just fine. The comedy, about a teenage girl, her friends and dating in the age of Facebook, also stars Demi Moore as Cyrus’ mother. Cyrus and Hemsworth — who met when they shot family drama movie The Last Song in 2009 — apparently decided to go their separate ways when Liam lost his temper after seeing Miley straddling a mystery man on the set of LOL in Detroit.

“Miley is devastated,” a source said. “She really thought Liam was ‘The One’.

“Although she did put her career ahead of they’re relationship, she made it clear it to Liam he wouldn’t always come second.

“She’s hoping they’ll be able to sought things out.”

However, it seems Liam may have already found himself a new woman — the Aussie hunk was seen getting cozy with a gorgeous blonde named Katy, 26, at the Shorebreak Hotel in Huntington Beach, Calif., on Aug. 7.

“She and a girlfriend approached him at the bar,” a source told American’s Star magazine.

“Girls were fawning over him all night, and he was clearly loving the attention, but he really took a liking to her.

“They were all throwing back beers and having a great time.

“Later, he suggested that they all go back to the Doubletree hotel, where they were staying, to keep the party going.

“Miley’s name was never brought up. He certainly didn’t mention her.”

Liam also exchanged numbers with Katy, the source said, and he “promised to call” her.

“They definitely had a strong connection.”
